Stravinsky’s Petrushka
January 30th, 2008 by teacher.penybrynOur school works on a modular basis whereby each class in Years 5 and 6 (4 classes) have a 6 week Music module of 1 hour per week. We’ve based the modules for all 4 classes since Christmas on Stravinsky’s Petrushka. We’ve followed the ideas suggested in the book and the children have thoroughly enjoyed both the Music , listening and responding to it and also devising their own Carnival based music in groups based on their own ideas of what a carnival would sound like. We’re in the process of refining these now and trying to get the children to make a score of their compositions. We hope to put the best elements together and perform to the whole school before Half Term. We’ve only managed to listen to two of the other pieces suggested in the book to date but look forward to developing further modules of work based on them in the future.
